Trying to make everything clear

As already was announced, I was going to make a new post on Latvian Style and Fashion Awards 2009 (LSFW09), dress code policy and some inner drama.

Baltic Fashion Federation (c)

1st March was one big hectic day for me - our twitter was reflecting it, so some is aware of my glamming up drama. Baltic Fashion Federation (BFF) has selected me as a member of jury for LSFW09, which was a huge responsibility not only in matter of selecting candidates, but also in terms of appearance. For those who are curious about voting procedure, as promised, this post is meant to explain some points:
The jury members are chosen by BFF, these are people, who are related to Latvian fashion scene, and this year's list is published. That make 19 members in total. Among that people mostly are fashion media people. Stuff`n`Style was the only blog. Some of you may argue that Agnese Kleina is a blogger too, but let me remind you, that Ms Kleina was announced as a editor of magazine Klubs' internet version. Then the voting takes place consisting of two phases - in the 1st phase members of jury are provided with a list nomination and nominated people, e.g. in nomination "the best fashion debut" are listed 6 brands.  The members of jury has to give points to every listed person from 1 to 6, where's 1 is the best. When voting lists are submitted to BFF, they count points. The 2nd phases is a short list, which is based on the 1st phase's results. In the short list any nomination has 3 nominees. Jury has to give point from 1 to 3. That's it - the voting is completed.
The results are announced at official ceremony, which this year took place on 1st March. The procedure is similar any other awards. People were arguing about long list, like there's wast't this and that person. Well, what can i say - NOBODY has prohibited to suggest anyone. If you feel like a Mr X and Ms Y should be considered as a most stylish singers, go ahead and send an email to BFF. Maija Mēlbarde, fashion PR person commented lately, that Una Meistare, the travell and fashion journalist, has actually suggested store Pērle as a best fashion debute, but apparently it was already too late. It is also possible to suggest even a nomination, for example, "the most stylish Dj" or "the most stylish Athlete". The question is: do we have any? (Feel free to comment, we'd really love to know your opinion, regardless the language).
Also I`d like to emphasize, that it is NOT  BFF choice of who's the most stylish actor, singer, TV person etc. Eventually it's responsibility of members of the jury. This year these people were:

  • Anita Altmane, fashion journalist, Pastaiga magazine
  • Ieva Čečina, magazine Santa fashion editor
  • Jānis Deināts, photographer
  • Agnese Kleina, magazine Klubs's internet version editor

  • Deniss Ševeļovs, Stuff`n`Style (us!!!)
  • Edīte Treija, magazine UNA stylist
  • Dace Vaivara, JOY editor-in-chief
  • Jeļena Vlasova, L`Officiel Latvija editor-in-chief
  • Kaspars Zaviļeiskis, FHM editor-in-chief
The Best Cover and The Best Styling was chosen by another jury:

  • Ieva Adamss, journalist (Latvia)
  • Oleg Biryukov, fashion designer (Russia)
  • Sara Pelotti, Collezioni Donna  fashion journalist (Italy)
  • Maija Silova, journalist, TV presenter (Style Police) (Latvia)
  • Žanete Skarule, TV presenter (Latvia)
  • Zulphiya Starsta, Fashionpagez.com founder dibinātāja, Plaza editor (Sweden)
  • Andrej Subarew, Baltic Fashion Award creative director (Germany)
  • Anna Velander Gisslen, Star! Television producer and development director (Sweden)
  • Agnese Zeltiņa, actress (Latvia)
And of course there was extra jury for The Best fe/male Model (all of them are head of model agencies):

  • Zigmunds Līpiņš,  VACATIO

  • Ēriks Meisāns,  NATALIE

  • Nils Raumanis, DANDY

  • Agris Blaubuks,  2b

  • Marianna Prozorova, TERRI

      1. Well I am sure that there are stylish athletes, stylish writers, stylish painters, stylish bloggers in the end of the day, stylish boss etc. etc...

The only two questions remain the usual that I allways have when there is need to frame a style in some definition: WHAT does style and being stylish SCTUALLY mean AND WHO is able to find all the nominees?

I truly believe that there should be and could be more nominations.

Would be cool if there would be a nomination which would find a fashion newcomer every year. And this newcomer should be from the "streets". No one famous, a regular person who would represent the style of streets since street style blogs become more and more popular all around the globe.

      2. Paula, I do like you idea about newcomer from the streets. However, I can`t really imagine how it would be practically possible - should it be the one, who has appeared in most of fashion blogs?

      3. I don't know :D That is why I also mentioned that I have noooo idea who would be a judge for that! Maybe a special board should be created for that and they would create a special street fashion blog during the year and then in the end of the year visitors of the blog could vote for the ONE! :)

But I have to admit, I hate most often the street examples we have presented in our street style blogs :( Mostly pseudo-artists that are all the same. That is why it would be cool to see understanding of street style from actual designers or fashion journalists.

      4. Paula, you absolutely right - some a la street style fashion blogs put only, what I call "māklsa" people in ridiculous raggey. The more colorful, the better! Pseudo-artist, that's the name for them. Ok, we don`t have enough of stylish people, but I`m sure we can find some here. BTW street fashion blogs loves me (!), but it's public don`t - they always crap on me. Apparently because I`m not fitting into "māksla".
BTW, Paula are you going to visit Open Air Vintage Festival vol.4

      5. I think I will visit it for sure, love the theme and love the concept of the festival! However I am not a huge fan of vintage, but I love the original design things that are brand new and made by young artists :)

I was participating in the previous one as a seller with my sister. :)

About the "māksla" theme. Well... I am not sooooo much into fashion you might say, because there are days when I leave my house with no make-up, no hairstyle and in my white nike air-force's , BUT I still can't wayt this winter to back down a bit (even though I usually love winter) so I can wear my high heels finally :D

      6. Yay for high heels! Sometimes I look like a waling disaster - in oversized hoodie, trashy jeans and old sneakers, so it's impossible to be glammed up all the time. However my trashy days have nothing to do with māklsa. I guess your's either not alike. Ok Paula, see you there!
